What is the Green Inclusive Community Buildings funding program?

April 2021// Infrastructure Canada has just launched the Green Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) funding program targeting energy efficiency measures and green retrofits for new and existing community-oriented buildings.

• $860 Million is available for small and medium retrofits to existing buildings (Stream 1)
• $430 Million is available for new builds and large retrofits to existing buildings (Stream 2)

Eligible Green Retrofit Measures

Examples of minor retrofits could include:

Sealing with caulking or spray foam
Adding insulation
Upgrading lighting systems

Examples of minor retrofits could include:

Replacing window glazing
Updating low-flow faucets with sensorrs and automatic shut-offs
Installing sub-metering
HVAC upgrades
Implementation of new operating mechanisms such as:
- An energy management system
- Building automation system
- Sensors
- Control equipment
- Metering equipment
