What do you need for the greener homes loan application?

1. Meet the Eligibility Criteria 

  • Homeowner Status: You must own the home.
  • Primary Residence: The home must be your principal residence.
  • Good Credit: You need a good credit history and must not be in bankruptcy or any insolvency proceedings.
  • EnerGuide Evaluation: You need a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation completed on or after April 1, 2020.

2. Gather Your Documents

  • Contact Information: Your name, phone number, and email address. 
  • Proof of Ownership: Your property tax bill number or other municipal property documents. 
  • Proof of Residence: A government-issued ID (like a driver’s licence) with the matching address on it, along with a utility bill. 
  • Income & Employment Confirmation: Documents to confirm your ability to repay the loan.

3. Start the Application Process 

  • Register: 
    You must first register for the Canada Greener Homes Grant before applying for the loan.
  • Apply: 
    Submit your loan application, including your retrofit plan and all required documentation, to the financial institution offering the loan.

4. Complete Your Retrofits 

  • Perform Upgrades: 
    Once your loan is approved, proceed with completing the approved retrofits.
