What’s the Ottawa DER Large Solar PV Funding Incentive and Why Is It Being Offered?

Through its regional planning process, The Ontario Government has identified the Ottawa-area grid as electricity-constrained. The province has also determined new solar generation to be the best solution for reducing demand on the grid. And they are willing to pay for it with direct cash incentives to local businesses.

Businesses that install at least 50 kW of solar will qualify to get 50% of their solar project costs covered by this incentive program.

Who Qualifies for the Save ON Solar Incentive?

Any Ottawa business located in one of the postal codes listed below automatically qualifies! The solar must be intended for load displacement only, so the amount of power generated cannot exceed the maximum load of the facility.

The systems must be mounted on a new or existing rooftop or wall and must be “behind-the-meter” – meaning that the system cannot be part of a net metering contract with the local hydro company.
