Accessing solar energy is more affordable than ever for homeowners, thanks to a variety of federal, provincial, and municipal solar incentives. This resource outlines current rebates and funding programs that help homeowners across Western Canada reduce the upfront cost of residential solar and battery systems while increasing long-term energy savings.

Residential  Programs By Province

Ontario Residential Solar Incentives
  • Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS): Launched in 2025, it provides up to $10,000 in rebates for energy efficiency, including:
    • $5,000 for installing a new rooftop solar PV system.
    • $5,000 for adding a battery energy storage system (must be paired with a new solar install).
  • Durham Region Deep Retrofit Rebate Whitby:
    • This rebate (of up to $5,000 cash back) is still available, but it can no longer be combined with the Durham Region Deep Retrofit Rebate (to get a total of up to $10,000 back), as the Durham rebate is now fully subscribed and no longer available to new applicants.
    • Available to Whitby residents only

      Administered through the Durham Greener Homes program, Whitby residents may receive an incentive for reducing their Energy Use (Gigajoules/year) by at least 50 percent between pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations.

      Energy use reduction

      $2,500 to $5,000 for achieving 50 percent or greater energy use reduction between modelled results from pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations.

      Incentives increase by $50 for every 1 percent of energy use reduced over 50 percent.

Efficiency Nova Scotia EnergyForward New Homes: Efficiency Nova Scotia offers up to $25,000 in incentives for builders and homebuyers to offset costs associated with energy-efficient upgrades in new home constructions. Learn More.

Solar Electric Rebate Program:

Homeowners can receive up to 40% of installation costs, with a maximum rebate of $10,000. The rebate is calculated at $1,000/kW DC installed, and eligibility requires the building to receive the residential rate on its electric bill. Learn More.
