Challenge
Dymon Storage’s Etobicoke facility was experiencing high and unpredictable energy costs, driven by increasing utility rates and intensive operational demands typical of large-scale storage operations. As a sector leader with a strong environmental mandate, Dymon aimed to transition its properties toward Net Zero emissions. However, the technical complexity of retrofitting a vast rooftop with a high-capacity solar PV system—while ensuring ongoing business operations—posed a significant barrier. The company needed an experienced partner capable of delivering not only technical expertise, but also seamless project management, regulatory compliance, and long-term system reliability.
The Solution
Dymon Storage selected Otter Energy, Ontario’s most experienced commercial solar provider, to deliver a fully integrated, turn-key solar PV solution. Utilizing 3,000 premium solar modules and advanced project management protocols, Otter Energy navigated all stages from system design and procurement to installation and commissioning. Results
Upon completion in 2022, the 1.3 MW DC rooftop solar PV system became Ontario’s largest net-metered installation of its kind, producing 1.59 GWh annually and offsetting 80% of the facility’s electricity consumption. This achievement secured Dymon Storage’s energy independence, stabilized long-term energy costs, and provided an attractive return on investment, supporting the company’s sustainability mission and Net Zero targets. The project’s success and Otter Energy’s technical and operational excellence resulted in an ongoing partnership, with Dymon awarding all future solar projects to Otter Energy.
